Animators prepare for National SCC Convention

DAISY SAMUEL

Archbishop’s House, Kolkata: An enlightening SCC meeting, 18 May 2019, in preparation for the National Hindi Convention of SCC, was held to encourage and bring awareness among the Parish SCC animators on what needs to be done for the Exposure Program, 26 October, 2019 where about 300/500 delegates will be sent to the different Parishes where Small Christian Communities exist. Fr.  Dominic Gomes, Vicar General and SCC Coordinator for the Kolkata Archdiocese thanked the Lord and Mother Mary for inspiring many to come in spite of the tremendous heat of summer.

As usual, there was Bible Enthronement, Bible Veneration and a reflection. Fr. Dominic emphasised the importance of a SCC Day in every Parish before the Convention as a rehearsal for 26 October,
2019 whole-day programme in the Parishes when the SCC guests from other Parishes in India will spend the day in the Kolkata Parishes. Fr. Dominic also told the Animators that Bible Veneration must be done at every Gospel Sharing Meeting held in the Parish areas and spoke about the proper Networking system to be followed for Accommodation and transportation of the delegates. He said that if the Gospel Sharing was not strong in Kolkata, there will be a decline in our devotion to the Church with no progress ahead.

50,000 Prayer Cards (in Hindi and English) have already been distributed in the Parishes and in families and every Parish/family is expected to say the Prayer for the success of the Convention at every Mass after Holy Communion till October 2017, in accordance with the request of Archbishop Thomas D’Souza of Kolkata.

Sr. Christin Joseph of the SCC National Service Team showed a video of a Gospel Sharing Meeting held in Morapai, Kolkata Archdiocese, where there was at least one member from the 12 Archdiocese/Parish Cells as an active member of the SCC and the Animator/Leader was changed at every meeting. The 6th Step of service was confined not only to the Christians in the neighbourhood but also to the non-Christians.

After lunch, Fr. Dominic and Sr. Meena invited some members to conduct the first step of the Gospel Sharing based on the Bible and with the help of the Invitatory prayers and also reciting ‘Come Lord
Jesus come!’ in English and Hindi at the end of the prayer. The next meeting of the Animators is scheduled for 22 & 23 June, 2019. The Agenda for this meeting is:
A) Accommodation for the delegates – number of houses identified
B) Vehicles available for the Convention – names and addresses of the generous souls, including the time, date, etc., they are ready to offer their vehicles
C) Date of the SCC Day to be celebrated in each Parish.
The meeting ended with a short Thanksgiving Prayer.
