Kolkata: The fast-spreading Coronavirus (COVID-19) has already afflicted over 1 lakh people in more than 105 countries worldwide. In the absence of any verified data and medical remedy against the novel coronavirus, which appears to be more deadly than the previous coronaviruses like SARS and MERS, people are feeling helpless and at the mercy of the pandemic. It is in turbulent times like this that we turn to God for His Divine intervention and protection.
As St. Pope John Paul II had said, "All the sick of the world can be won through the Great power of the Eucharistic adoration." To unitedly pray for God's refuge, protection and healing, a Special Prayer and Worship Service, culminating with the Holy Mass, was held on Tuesday 10th March, 2020, at Auxilium Parish, Gobra.
The two-hour long Special Prayer & Worship was attended by a large number of the Religious and lay faithful, who responded to the call given by the Laity Commission of the Archdiocese of Calcutta. The Prayer and Worship Service was conducted by FL Ramesh Cherian, a charismatic preacher and priest of the Parish, who urged all to surrender completely to the Living God and pray for His forgiveness for all our iniquities and beseech His mercy, refuge and healing in the face of the current pandemic.
Interspersed with prayerful and devotional singing, the Service ended with the Divine Mercy Chaplet, the Rosary and Benediction. The Holy Eucharist was celebrated by Rev, FL Dominic Comes, Vicar General, Archdiocese of Calcutta, with FL John, Parish Priest, and Fr. Ramesh as co-celebrants. "God is my saviour; I will trust him and not be afraid. The Lord gives me power and strength; He is my saviour." Isaiah 12:2.
