Kolkata: The annual Joan Brown Memorial Awards were held on Sunday 21st May, 2017 at the Divine Mercy Chapel, Elliot road. Instituted by Mr. Melvyn Brown, founder of Ambassadors for Jesus and by Rev. Fr. Mohan Das, Parish Priest of St. Mary's Church these awards are given to those members of the laity who have dedicated their years in service towards the Church and the Christian faith. The recipients were Sylvie D'Gama for “AFJ Mother of the Year”, Rosie Torcato for “AFJ Woman of the Year“, Leslie Pereira for “Humanitarian- in social and selfless service over the years”, Sunil Baptist for “Dedicated service in propagating the Catholic Faith through Facebook and for his efforts in renovation of churches, schools and cemeteries” and Michael Bain for “his excellent records in sports across the years and for his unique and classic designing of lifestyle ornaments at Ebony”.
The awards ceremony was followed by a beautiful and thought provoking speech by Fr. Mohandas followed by felicitation and a community get together. As the awards seek to recognize the pioneers and leading workers of the laity it also wishes to underline the deep rooted ethos of service in the life of Christians. All recipients wish to thank Ambassadors for Jesus and their initiative in rewarding the silent achievers in Christian society.
